During the first Test at Headingley against India, England’s Joe Root reached a historic milestone by equalling Rahul Dravid’s record for the most catches taken by a non-wicketkeeper in Test cricket.
Root completed his 210th catch on Day 4, dismissing Shardul Thakur off Josh Tongue—a sharp slip catch that mirrored Dravid’s longstanding tally.
What makes this achievement even more extraordinary is how fast Root reached it.
He has accomplished the feat in just 154 Tests and 293 innings, ten fewer matches and eight fewer innings than Dravid, who took 164 Tests and 301 innings to reach the same mark.
With this, Root now shares the top spot among non-wicketkeeping fielders in Test cricket alongside the “Wall,” adding another dimension to his elite career.
