Amstelveen, Aug 22 (PTI ) The Indian men’s hockey team on Saturday conceded two goals in the final quarter despite a flawless first half to lose 1-3 to reigning Olympic champions the Netherlands and need a big win over Argentina and favourable results in the other pool match to progress to the semifinals of the ongoing FIH World Cup here.
India needed to win this match but despite a good start, the team committed mistakes in the final 10 minutes .
Argentina defeated England in another match Poll E second round match 3-1. Still the semifinal looks like a distant dream for India. They will now play have to beat Argentina by a margin of five goals on Monday to be the second best side from the pool to progress to the semifinals behind Netherlands who are already through.
Not just win by five goals, India will also need Netherlands to beat England to stay in the race.
Netherlands are through to the semis with six points, while Argenitina and England now have three points each.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored the only goal for India in the 52nd minute from a penalty corner.
Duco Telgenkamp (41st), TJep Hoedemakers (51st), and Thijs van Dam (55th) scored three field goals for the Netherlands.
The Indian team, which lost to England in the first round, remained pointless in the second round.
