A property dispute linked to the lease of a hotel is suspected to have led to the shooting in Guwahati’s Lachit Nagar area on Monday night, in which five people were killed and one person was injured, police said.
Guwahati Commissioner of Police Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta said the firing took place at around 9 pm at Hotel Bilas Inn in the Bora Service area. The accused, identified as Ghanakanta Gogoi, was arrested within an hour of the incident, and the weapon used in the shooting was seized.
Mahanta said four of the five deceased belonged to the same family, while the fifth victim and the injured person were from the same village.
