A special court on Friday granted bail to the deputy registrar of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai bench, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a person for getting a case at NCLT settled in his favour.
The central agency had on May 29 arrested deputy registrar Charan Pratap Singh and another person, Karsan Ahir, after they were caught by the CBI officials while allegedly accepting the bribe. The CBI registered a case on May 14 on the allegations of the complainant, a hotel owner.
As per CBI, the said complainant was involved in a dispute with his brothers, regarding the ownership of the said hotel and frauds done by his brother and his associates.
Singh, through Advocate Shalabh Kunwar Saxena, had argued that the allegations against him were vague and lacked concrete evidence and he shall be released on bail.
The special court on Friday allowed bail application of Charan Pratap Singh on executing a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh along with surety and directed him to appear in CBI’s office twice every week till chargesheet is filed in the case.
The special Judge A V Kharkar, among other bail conditions, also asked Singh to cooperate with the investigation officer and that he shall not leave Mumbai and Thane district without obtaining prior permission from the special court. He is asked to attend every date of trial in the court.
The court added that Singh shall not tamper with the evidence and shall not directly or indirectly threaten or induce any person acquainted with the facts of the case to dissuade him or her from disclosing such facts from court or probing agency. The judge also directed Singh to submit details related to his residence along with contact details of two relatives/acquaintances residing in Mumbai.
