New Delhi: The Asian Collective for Health Systems (TACHS) along with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held a discussion on Strengthening Regional Institutions and Collaborations for Advancing Health in Asia at the World Health Summit Regional Meeting.
The panel discussed the common challenges of South Asia and Southeast Asia such as demographic changes, rising non-communicable diseases, and the impacts of climate change.
The panelists noted that with global health institutions facing challenges, Asia requires a new cooperation model. They emphasized the need for regional institutions to address existing gaps and play a more active role in shaping future health priorities.
Meanwhile, present at the event, Indu Bhushan, Former CEO, Ayushman Bharat said “For countries in the global south we have the dual burden of communicable diseases and non-communicable diseases. We also see large inequities- both economic inequities and inequities in terms of health. Systems are fragmented- primary healthcare, secondary healthcare, tertiary healthcare, public and private work in silos.”
“Regional integration and collaboration offers one pathway for countries to continue to improve health outcomes for their populations while managing the implications of the ongoing policy crisis,” said Neethi Rao, Fellow, Centre for Social and Economic Progress.
