Mumbai: Private colleges in the state have resumed medical and dental admissions since 10 am today, after receiving an assurance from the govt about the disbursal of their pending reimbursements. While the govt stated that they have taken cognisance of the matter and are trying to resolve it, in a letter to the govt, the association has given them time till postgraduate medical admissions commence.
Admissions in these colleges were stalled since October 1, after the second merit list was released. Students can now approach their allotted colleges to secure their seats.
The Association of Managements of Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges, in a fresh letter issued on Saturday morning, mentioned that they will re-participate in the process and complete it on time. The association also claimed that they would continue to follow up with the govt at various levels.
However, they have asked for a concrete solution before the commencement of postgraduate admissions for 2024-25. They have requested the govt to hold a meeting to review the positive action taken by the govt.
Members of the association, on September 26, met the medical education minister Hasan Mushrif, to highlight their problems. The colleges have not been receiving govt reimbursements for 60-70% of their seats and it has become difficult for them to sustain with increasing costs.
The members claimed that the state govt owes around Rs 30-50 crores per annum to each private medical college and that some of their dues are pending for over three to four years.
