Winter Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Day 14 Highlights: The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Thursday (December 18, 2025) after the passage of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025, amid opposition uproar over its provisions.
The Bill, replacing the 20-year-old MGNREGA, was passed after Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan replied to a debate on it. Introduced in the House on December 16, 2025, the bill is being presented by the government as a modernised rural employment framework in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
The legislation guarantees 125 days of wage employment per rural household each year, an increase from the 100 days assured under MGNREGA, for adults willing to engage in unskilled manual work.
On the other hand, a scheduled debate on the Delhi air pollution crisis failed to take place in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, shortly after the passage of the G Ram G Bill, with both the government and the Opposition accusing each other of stalling proceedings.
