Nainital’s
famed
tourist
spot,
Dorothy’s
Seat,
also
known
as
Tiffin
Top,
has
been
destroyed
by
a
landslide
caused
by
continuous
monsoon
rains.
The
recent
incident
left
the
site
in
ruins
but
fortunately
resulted
in
no
casualties.
Sub-divisional
Magistrate
Pramod
Kumar
remarked,
“The
town
echoed
with
a
loud
bang
and
huge
boulders
came
crashing
down.”

Dorothy’s
Seat,
perched
at
2,290
meters,
was
built
by
British
Army
officer
Colonel
Kellett
in
memory
of
his
wife.
The
platform
featured
a
round
structure
with
a
bench
atop
a
flight
of
steps,
designed
for
her
to
enjoy
the
scenic
beauty
and
paint.
Heavy
rainfall
worsened
deep
cracks
in
the
hill
leading
to
Tiffin
Top,
compromising
its
structural
integrity
and
causing
the
collapse.
Impact
on
Local
Communities
The
collapse
of
Dorothy’s
Seat
is
a
significant
loss
for
both
locals
and
tourists
who
visited
for
its
stunning
views
of
the
lake
town
and
the
Himalayas
on
clear
days.

have
been
confined
to
their

for
22
days
due
to
severe

The
Chifliti
river’s
water
levels

closures.
The

Force
has
been
actively
involved
in

The
monsoon
season
continues
to
challenge
the
resilience
of
Uttarakhand’s
communities.
The
relentless
rains
have
caused
widespread
damage
across
Uttarakhand.
In
addition
to
Nainital,
other
areas
are
grappling
with
severe
weather
conditions.
Emergency
services
remain
on
high
alert
as
they
work
tirelessly
to
assist
affected
residents
and
mitigate
further
damage.
The
recent
events
highlight
the
vulnerability
of
hill
stations
like
Nainital
during
heavy
monsoons.
Authorities
are
urging
residents
and
tourists
to
exercise
caution
and
stay
informed
about
weather
updates.
The
destruction
of
Dorothy’s
Seat
serves
as
a
stark
reminder
of
nature’s
power
and
the
need
for
robust
infrastructure
planning
in
vulnerable
regions.
Efforts
are
underway
to
assess
the
full
extent
of
the
damage
and
plan
for
future
preventive
measures.
As
emergency
teams
continue
their
work,
the
community
remains
hopeful
for
swift
recovery
and
restoration
of
normalcy.
The
resilience
shown
by
locals
during
these
challenging
times
is
commendable.
