Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) will soon be able to admit 120 more patients in the orthopaedic department as the new building of the Orthopaedic Super Specialty Centre is almost ready. Dr Ashish Kumar, recently appointed as the head of the KGMU orthopaedic department, shared this development during a press conference on Saturday. Dr Kumar said, “The KGMU’s orthopaedic department will soon accommodate patients on 300 beds, compared to the current 180 beds. The completion of the new Orthopaedic Super Specialty Centre building will significantly enhance the department’s patient admission capacity.”He further said that two floors of the seven-storey building would be allocated to the orthopaedic surgery department. Additionally, state-of-the-art facilities such as ultramodern operating theatres, OPD, MRI, CT scan, and pathology services will commence operations. High Dependency Unit (HDU) and ICU facilities will also be made available.
The department aims to incorporate 3D printing technology into surgeries this year, enhancing precision. Dr Kumar added that this technique involves creating a 3D model of the bone requiring surgery, facilitating a better understanding of possible interventions and ultimately improving surgical outcomes.
“Last year, the department performed surgeries on 2,000 patients, with approximately 40 per cent of them benefiting from Ayushman Bharat and other government schemes,” added Dr Ashish.
