This scene from the “lost world: Jurassic Park”, a second part of the legendary saga, still leaves fans in misunderstanding: it has no logical explanation and we are still waiting for answers.
A ghost boat, a T-Rex locked in its hold, no raptor on the horizon … But what really went at sea? Even Steven Spielberg seems to have let a monumental inconsistency pass.
When the lost world: Jurassic Park was released in 1997, it is a colossal event. So much so that the marketing service spends more to sell the film than to produce it! About $ 250 million is invested in derivative products – toys, video games, comics – against “only” 73 million for filming. A risky bet, but which reports: the film exceeds 600 million at the box office. It’s won!
However, this second opus was not supposed to see the light of day. Michael Crichton, the author of the original novel, had no intention of continuing the story. It was only after the success of the first film, in 1993, that he was convinced to write a sequel. And even there, the return of Steven Spielberg Behind the camera will only be one condition: Crichton will first have to validate the continuation with a novel.
Finally, the film was born. But despite the means, a major inconsistency persists there … and it has never been really explained.
A scene without logical explanation
Remember: towards the end of Lost worlda boat called the USS Venture (a tribute to the King Kong boat) brutally accosted the Bay of San Diego. On board, the crew seems to have been massacred. However, the T-Rex is still locked in the hold. So … Who killed them? And above all, how?

For years, fans have been their. Meanwhile, storyboards found from a scene absent from the final editing have shown the T-Rex to destroy everything before being locked in the hold by a dying sailor. However, this does not explain this cut hand that is still grabbed to the rudder of the ship and which could not have been the work of the T-Rex: indeed, the latter could not have left the small cabin intact, it would have destroyed everything in its path.

The most popular theory presupposes that at the origin, velociraptors were also supposed to be on board and would have been the cause of this chaos. Anyway, the explanation is not in the film and the stage of the “ghost boat” remains an enigma never elucidated.
Admittedly, visually, the chaotic arrival of the ship and the spectacular escape of the T-Rex mark the spirits. Maybe it was enough in the eyes of Steven Spielberg. But for those who like things to make sense, it is a mystery that continues to haunt us …
