Kavach system makes trains like Vande Bharat run faster
India’s Kavach system is the anti-collision technology that protects trains on the track and also gives them the confidence to run faster.
Indian railways has been digitised in all spheres over the past few years and safety of the trains is a paramount part of its plans. For this, the Indian Railways has developed Kavach which is an anti-collision protection system and allows our high-speed trains to run at full tilt without worrying about them derailing or crashing into another train.
But these advanced technologies need reliable networks to perform efficiently and the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), working under the Indian Railways, has optimised the network to reduce the impact of these signalling and protect trains at all cost.
You can watch the video here for a detailed understanding of the Kavach system which is gradually being offered for major train networks in the country, including the Vande Bharat trains.
Ericsson showcased the power of LTE and how it positively impacts the performance of the Kavach system and reduces the latency to ensure that trains can run at high speeds in a secure fashion. The interesting part about Kavach is that it can be integrated with both new and old-gen trains in the country as it is backward compatible, which saves Indian Railways a lot of money which would have been needed to upgrade the existing trains to equip the Kavach security system.
