The companies said in a statement that they will jointly develop and commercialise the product through a cost- and profit-sharing model, with clearly defined territorial responsibilities, operating through a joint governance structure. The partnership will combine Hetero’s presence in the US and emerging markets with Richter’s established commercial network across Europe and Central Asia, while also allowing for potential future manufacturing in Europe by Richter.
Hetero has already invested in technology setup and registration batch manufacturing, with regulatory filings underway, and EU and US submissions planned for 2027.
“This strategic Partnership brings together the deep local expertise of Hetero and Richter to broaden the global access to Semaglutide Injection therapy” Dr. Vamsi Krishna Bandi, Managing Director, Hetero Labs Ltd said.
This partnership will potentially strengthen Hetero’s position in the race to bring generic semaglutide products to global markets as patents on the originator drug begin to expire in several geographies over the coming years, and reflects intensifying competition among drugmakers to secure manufacturing capacity and strengthen their positions in the fast-growing market for GLP-1 therapies.
“It will enable us to deliver high‑quality, affordable therapies to patients living with diabetes and related cardiometabolic conditions worldwide.” Dr. Bence Kovács, Global Head of General Medicines, Richter said in a statement.
