Shah addressed three election rallies in Assam’s Sribhumi, Hailakandi, and Lakhipur. He said that only the BJP can protect Assam from illegal influx and preserve its cultural identity.
Expressing confidence that the BJP will form the government in West Bengal, he said, “Infiltrators have been identified, and each and every one will be deported. “Illegal immigrants take away jobs, ration, and employment meant for local youth, poor families, and tea garden workers in Assam.”

“Congress is indulging in appeasement politics and has failed to act decisively on illegal immigration, which has long impacted Assam’s demographic and socio-political landscape,” he said. Shah added that past Congress governments weakened legal safeguards by scrapping the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act of 1950 and introducing the IMDT Act in 1983, which, he claimed, provided protection to illegal migrants.
He also criticised Congress for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act, stating that it was necessary to protect persecuted minorities. Shah said, “Lasting development is only possible when there is peace and stability. Without security, progress cannot be sustained.”
He noted that significant measures have been taken to strengthen law and order, while simultaneously advancing infrastructure and social sector development across the region. The home minister highlighted ongoing and proposed improvements in road connectivity, healthcare infrastructure, and administrative decentralisation. He mentioned the establishment of the Assam Secretariat for Barak Valley in Silchar, stating that it would reduce the need for long-distance travel to Dispur and improve governance at the regional level.
He said, “Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, daily wages for tea garden workers in Assam stood at just ₹94. Under the BJP government, this has increased to ₹258.” Shah added that the party is committed to raising wages to Rs 500 per day within the next five years. He further stated that nearly 3.5 lakh families across 700 tea gardens have been granted land pattas, ensuring long-awaited land ownership rights.
