T20 World Cup 2024: ‘Unbeaten’ and hot favourites for this tournament, India, are only two matches away from ending their quest for an ICC trophy since 2013. Standing in front of them is a resurgent England, who have shrugged aside their dismal 2023 ODI World Cup campaign and have been dominating oppositions in this year’s T20 World Cup.
The two sides are meeting again at the same stage where they met last season, as England humiliated and dominated the Indian side in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final to progress into the final, which they eventually won after beating India’s fiercest rivals — Pakistan.
India have been a dominant side across all formats post T20 World Cup 2022, as the ‘Men in Blue’ have managed to progress into the final of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup, both in 2023. However, Rohit Sharma’s men suffered huge defeats in both the final, and the opponents on both the occasion — the mighty Aussies.
India’s Revenge Redemption-Arc in 2024
India have been on a resurgence mode, as they seek to reclaim their thrones in all the formats, starting with the T20 World Cup 2024, an event they won back in 2007 (the inaugural edition). After Australia broke the Indian hearts in Tests and ODI’s, it was India who proved to hammer in the final nail in the coffin of Australia’s historic run, as the Aussies were knocked out of this year’s edition in the Super 8.
India lost to England by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final and now, they stand a good chance of knocking them out at the very same stage in Guyana this time.
What Exactly Is The ‘250-Minute Rule’?
India Vs England match seems to be threatened by consistent rain. However, the Indian fans shall not be worried about the fixture, as the new International Cricket Council (ICC)’s rule will make sure the cricketing fans witness a result. The ‘250-minute rule’ states that the participating teams will be granted-in additional 250 minutes for the completion of the match.
This rule has come into affect only for the knockout stages, as they won’t be having a reserve day barring the final, which will have a reserve day in case weather interrupts or abandons the play on the pre-scheduled day.
However, if even this new rule fails to provide in a result, it will be India making their way into this year’s final on the virtue of finishing their Super 8 Group as winners, and England, who finished second, will unfortunately, bow out of the tournament, and in the process, will give up on their title defence.
