West Indies recall Shai Hope, Oshane Thomas for T20Is against India | Cricket News

The West Indies have announced a 15-member ‘provisional’ squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, set to begin on Thursday in Tarouba. Among the players making a return, wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope and fast bowler Oshane Thomas have been recalled to the squad.

Rovman Powell has been named the captain. While all 15 players will be present for each match, the playing XI for each game will be chosen from a 13-member squad, as stated by the Cricket West Indies (CWI).

Hope, who captained the West Indies in the three-match ODI series, will be making a comeback to T20Is after last playing in February of the previous year during the India tour.
On the other hand, 26-year-old Thomas is returning to the T20I squad after his last appearance in Karachi in December 2021.
Kyle Mayers has been appointed as the vice-captain of the squad, according to the CWI senior men’s selection panel.

Desmond Haynes, the lead selector, mentioned that the squad has been chosen with the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by the West Indies next year, in mind.
“We are looking at various plans as we try to find the right combinations. As we prepare; we are looking to build a unit which we believe can do the job when we host the global event in just under a year,” Haynes said in a CWI statement.

“We have some match-winners in our line-up and we will look to have the right kind of preparation. We also have other players who could come into consideration going forward. With the Caribbean Premier League starting next month, others will come into the reckoning.”
The opening match on Thursday will take place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. Following that, the teams will head to the Guyana National Stadium for the second and third matche on August 6 and 8.

The series will reach its climax during a blockbuster weekend at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, USA. The final two matches are scheduled to be held there on August 12 and 13.
