Amidst
the
Lok
Sabha
Election
2024,
Prime
Minister
Narendra
Modi
made
a
big
statement
on
black
money
seized
by
the
Enforcement
Directorate
(ED)
during
multiple
raids
in
recent
years.
During
an
interview
with
India
Today,
when
asked
about
the
Government’s
plan
of
action
for
the
gigantic
amount
seized
by
probe
agencies,
PM
Modi
said
that
his
government
is
exploring
legal
options
to
return
this
money
to
the
people
of
India.
“I
am
putting
a
lot
of
thought
into
this
because
I
feel
from
my
heart
that
these
people
have
looted
the
poor’s
money
by
misusing
their
position,
and
they
should
get
it
back.”

The
PM
added
that
if
any
legal
changes
would
be
needed,
he
would
get
it
done.
“I
have
asked
for
advise
from
the
best
legal
advisors
of
this
country
on
what
to
do
with
the
seized
money
that
is
lying
around,”
PM
Modi
said.
Highlighting
some
provisions
mentioned
in
the
new
‘Nyaya
Sanhita’,
a
replacement
to
Indian
Penal
Code,
PM
Modi
said
soon
a
way
will
be
made
in
this
regard.
Dropping
down
the
number
of
amounts
lying
with
government
agencies,
PM
Modi
said
so
far
nearly
Rs
1.25
Lakh
crores
have
been
seized.
PM
said
some
corrupt
politicians,
leaders,
and
businessmen
forcefully
collected
this
money
from
innocent
people
and
now
it
is
time
to
return
this
money
to
them.
Quoting
the
land-for-jobs
scam,
in
which,
former
Bihar
CM
Lalu
Prasad
Yadav
and
his
party
leaders
were
involved,
PM
Modi
said
such
conditions
forced
people
to
give
their
hard-earned
money
and
properties.
“I
have
talked
about
a
couple
of
types
of
corruption,
one
that
is
done
in
big
businesses
where
the
transaction
remains
secret.
This
is
a
problem.
In
most
cases,
innocent
people
paid
for
it,
like
in
Bengal,
in
the
case
of
recruitment
of
teachers,”
the
Prime
Minister
further
said.
He
also
took
on
erstwhile
Left
Parties
governments
in
Kerala
and
West
Bengal
saying
“the
people’s
money
in
the
Communist
Party-run
Cooperative
Banks
was
swindled
in
the
name
of
personal
business
partnerships,
and
they
have
committed
fraud
worth
thousands
of
crores,”
and
“…Lalu
ji
has
got
the
land
written
in
his
name
when
he
was
the
railway
minister
in
exchange
for
giving
jobs
to
poor
people”.
However,
PM
Modi’s
statement
has
again
given
hope
to
people
who
have
been
waiting
for
Rs
15
lakh
to
be
transferred
to
their
bank
accounts,
which
BJP
leaders
including
PM
Modi
talked
about
in
his
election
rallies
in
2013,
and
later
when
Modi
became
the
Prime
Minister,
Congress
started
poking
him
to
give
Rs
15
lakh
to
every
Indian
that
he
had
“promised”.
Notably,
PM
Modi
never
“Promised”,
and
had
only
mentioned
in
his
speech
on
November
7,
2013,
in
Chhattisghar’s
Kanker
that
if
total
black
money
in
India
gets
recovered,
it
will
be
such
a
huge
amount
that
every
Indian
can
easily
get
15-20
lakh
in
their
accounts.
