A brutal winter storm knocked out energy in California and the Midwest, closed interstate highways from Arizona to Wyoming and prompted greater than 1,300 flight cancellations Wednesday — and the worst will not be over for a number of days. Few locations have been untouched by the wild climate, some on the reverse excessive: lengthy-standing file highs have been damaged in cities within the Midwest, mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
