Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee asks party leaders to say united amid debates over differences of old and new guard

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday gave a strong message to her party leaders, asking them to stay united and not express their differences outside the party. A closed-door meeting was held at Mamata Banerjee’s residence today at Kalighat.

“Trinamool chairperson Mamata Banerjee asked us to be united and take our fight to the people. There might be differences of opinion but it has to be voiced inside the party, not outside. “We will all fight together to save the people of Bengal under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee,” senior party leader Manas Bhuniya said after a closed-door meeting was held at Banerjee’s residence today to chalk out poll strategies in Lok Sabha polls for West Midnapore.

Banerjee made it clear to the leaders that there is no conflict between the old guard and the new. “Not only in Bengal, there are both old and new generations in the country and all across the world. You (media) have found a “news item” and keep on sensationalising it,” Bhuniya said. “Remember Mamata Banerjee will lead and her Chief General is Abhishek Banerjee.”

Banerjee has directed all the leaders to attend rallies and meetings in every booth and anchals across the state.

“We will decide on a concrete plan for Medinipur, Ghatal and parts of Jhargram and Arambag PC and fight together. We will continue to fight together for Adivasi, SC/ST, minorities and women,” a senior Trinamool leader said after the meeting.

The Trinamool Supremo has expressed their grievance against the central government on the MGNREGA issue.“Not only they (the Centre) have stopped money for several government schemes but are also trying to obstruct work across all the departments of the state government,” Banerjee has reportedly said in the meeting.“They are asking us to paint all government buildings in saffron and put their logo. We have decided not to do this. Instead, we will take our fight to each village, anchal and block.”

“We will all fight together to save the people of Bengal under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee,” Bhuniya stated.

The party will decide on a concrete plan for Medinipur, Ghatal and parts of Jhargram and Arambag PC and continue to fight together for Adivasi, SC/ST, minorities and women, sources said.

“We will together fight against the BJP’s politics of religious divide, caste, and deprivation and also CPI(M)’s violence and attacks on the people of Bengal,” Banerjee reportedly said in the meeting.

“Abhishek Banerjee is our chief general and he said that he will perform all the duties given by Mamata Banerjee and the party,” party sources said.
