T20 cricket is considered the most thrilling and fast-paced format in today’s era, where fans can expect a four or a six on almost every ball.
In such a format, the batsmen who adapt well and consistently score runs are truly special. Over time, several legendary players have made their mark with explosive performances, but only a few have managed to amass massive runs in T20 cricket.
Among them, an Indian player proudly features in the top five — none other than Virat Kohli.
Chris Gayle
It would not be wrong to call West Indies’ explosive batsman Chris Gayle the undisputed king of T20 cricket. With 14,562 runs, he remains the highest run-scorer in this format. He has single-handedly changed the course of matches with his power-packed hitting.
Kieron Pollard
Following Gayle is another legendary West Indian — Kieron Pollard, who sits second on this elite list with 13,854 runs. Pollard has proved time and again that T20 batting is not just about brute force but also about consistency. He has played several match-winning innings for the West Indies and various franchise teams, earning him global respect.
Alex Hales
With 13,814 runs, England’s Alex Hales holds the third position on this list. When he finds rhythm, bowlers struggle to contain him. His fearless approach and ability to dominate in leagues around the world make him a standout performer.
Shoaib Malik
Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik has shown that age is just a number. With 13,571 runs, he continues to be one of the most consistent and experienced players in this format. Despite being a veteran, Malik remains active in various T20 leagues, and his reliability keeps him relevant even today.
Virat Kohli
Indian batting legend Virat Kohli, who recently retired from T20 Internationals after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024, is fifth on this list with 13,543 runs. Kohli’s consistency and adaptability have made him a pillar of T20 batting. Even after stepping away from T20Is, his overall tally keeps him ahead of many active players and cements his legacy in this format.
