Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Opposition Maha Vikas Agadi in poll-bound, saying Agadi meant “biggest players of corruption”.
While addressing a public rally in Chandrapur’s Chimur, he said, “The rapid development of Maharashtra is beyond the reach of Aghadi. They have done a PhD in braking development. And Congress is a double PhD in it. Aghadi yani Bhrastrachar ke sab se bade khiladi, Aghadi yani khiladi (Aghadi means biggest players of corruption).”
Campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is an ally of the present Mahayuti government in the state, PM Modi said Maharashtra has seen the wonders a double-engine government can do.
“You have seen the double speed of development in the last 2.5 years. Maharashtra is the state with maximum foreign investment. There are new airports and expressways, one dozen Vande Bharat trains are running, and more than 100 railway stations are being transformed. The people of Chandrapur have been demanding rail connectivity for years, but Congress and Aghadi did not let that happen,” he said.
The elections for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra will take place in a single phase on November 20, with the vote count scheduled for November 23.
‘Congress Wants To Divide People’: PM Modi
PM Modi took a dig at Congress and said the grand old party wanted to divide people based on their caste. He urged people to stay united to prosper.
“Agar aap ek nahi rahe, aapki ek jutata tuti, sabse pehle congress aapka reservation cheen legi (If you don’t stay united congress will take away your quotas),” he said.
He added that the tribal population in the country was around 10% and Congress wanted to divide the Adivasi community into castes and weaken them. “If the Adivasi community gets divided into castes, it will end its identity and strength. The prince of Congress has announced this in a foreign country (Rahul Gandhi) We don’t have to become a part of Congress conspiracy and we have to stay united.
PM Modi’s Scheduled Rallies In Maharashtra
With less than a week to go for campaigning to end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address two more public meetings and campaign for MahaYuti candidates. The Prime Minister will address a rally Solapur at 4:15 pm. and later in Pune at 6:30 pm in western Maharashtra.
In western Maharashtra which has 70 Assembly constituencies, the BJP and its MahaYuti allies will look to minimise any damage in what is essentially considered an NCP-Congress stronghold. The BJP is looking to strategically deploy the Prime Minister to overcome any cracks in its organisation at the ground level.
Vidarbha is crucial for the contest as 36 of the 76 direct contests between the Congress and the BJP will play out in the region, which has a total of 62 Assembly constituencies. The BJP has also fielded 47 candidates in the region and if it strikes a blow here, the MahaYuti alliance’s chances of returning to power will increase to a large extent.
The region’s importance to the BJP’s poll calculations is apparent when one looks at PM Modi’s quick visits to Wardha and Washim on September 20 and October 5, respectively. During those visits, the Prime Minister focused on agriculture, the textile sector, and OBCs.
