Sharma said on Wednesday that the Sheikh wanted to create a state within a state on the basis of religion in 1947 by exploiting the erroneous appeasement policy of the then Congress government. He said the NC has now come a long way from seeking prime ministership to demanding restoration of statehood. He said Kashmir-based parties were trying to create a ‘narrative of Pakistan’ within the assembly to exploit the sentiments of people of Kashmir Valley. Sharma spoke to ET on the sidelines of the ongoing budget session of the assembly, stating that the ruling NC has accepted the fact that the ‘special status’ and ‘so called martyrs of 1931’ are long buried now.
“Sheikh Abdullah extended the two-nation theory of Ali Muhammad Jinnah here. He wanted a state within a state on the basis of religion. India is a secular country and one cannot establish a country within a country,” said Sharma adding, “NC exploited the erroneous appeasement policy of the then Congress government.”
Sharma, who represents Padder-Nagseni constituency of Kishtwar district, said: “Ek Peedi Pakhand Karti Hai, Aur Agli Peedi Parampara Banati Hai. This is what the third generation of Sheikh Abdullah is doing now.”. He reiterated that 22 Kashmiris killed by the forces of the then Dogra rulers on July 13, 1931 were ‘traitors’ and were glorified by Sheikh Abdullah and subsequent governments.
“My firm stand is that they are traitors of the Maharaja and people of J&K. Those people targeted Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus. They will remain traitors for us. Our martyrs are Maqbool Sherwani, Brigadier Rajender Singh, Major Somnath,” said Sharma.
He said Kashmir-based political parties have made attempts to create a narrative of ‘Pakistan and dialogue with that enemy country’ in the assembly which was opposed by the BJP.”We won’t allow the name of enemy countries to be taken in the House. Politics of Kashmir-based political parties starts from Pakistan, because they want to lead the people of the Valley astray,” said Sharma adding, “They have destroyed Kashmir, they don’t want peace, they want poor youngsters to pelt stones and not hold the pen and laptops in their hands. They want to imprint the name of Pakistan in the minds of youngsters for their own political gains,” said Sharma.He alleged that “they want to establish a narrative like the Naxals did. With the help of OGWs, informers, sympathisers, professors, advocates, businessmen, they are doing it in Jammu, to establish a nexus.”
