Ravindra Jadeja added another remarkable achievement to his Test career after becoming the latest Indian to enter the 350-wicket club during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
Jadeja reached the milestone on Day 3 after dismissing Keshara Nuwantha for two. The Sri Lankan batter attempted to attack a turning delivery, but the shot ballooned into the air and Shubman Gill completed the catch.
During the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, Ravindra Jadeja claimed his 350th Test wicket, becoming the fifth Indian bowler to reach this mark and the fourth player in history with 4,000+ Test runs and 350+ wickets.
The wicket took Jadeja’s Test tally to 350, making him only the fifth Indian bowler to reach the mark. He joined Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh in the exclusive group.
Jadeja’s latest achievement also underlined his status as one of Test cricket’s premier all-rounders. With more than 4,000 Test runs already to his name, he became only the fourth player in Test history to combine 4,000-plus runs with at least 350 wickets.
Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori are the other all-rounders to have achieved the feat. Kapil ended his Test career with 5,248 runs and 434 wickets, while Botham finished with 5,200 runs and 383 wickets. Vettori accumulated 4,531 runs and 362 wickets.
The 350-wicket mark also elevated Jadeja to third among left-arm spinners in Test history. Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath leads the list with 433 wickets, followed by Vettori with 362.
Jadeja’s milestone came after he had already made an impact against Sri Lanka by dismissing captain Dhananjaya de Silva for 21. His bowling continues to add another dimension to an already impressive career that combines batting, bowling and fielding.
Although Jadeja managed only 13 runs with the bat in India’s first innings, his latest bowling record further strengthened his place among India’s most successful Test all-rounders.
