Jaipur: Teachers of govt schools have requested the state govt to provide a 5% reservation for students from state-run schools in medical institutions in the state. They said a similar reservation is provided to students in Madhya Pradesh. Such an initiative in Rajasthan will enhance the quality of education in state-run schools and increase parents’ interest in enrolling their children in these schools, they said.
In a letter sent to CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Teachers Association (RPSTA) has demanded that 5% of the seats in MBBS and BDS courses in the state should be reserved for students of govt schools to promote these schools. The letter pointed out that the govt of Madhya Pradesh has issued an endorsed gazette dated July 2, 2024, and amended the Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Admission Rules, 2018, to ensure a 5% reservation of the seats in all colleges offering MBBS and BDS degrees for students of govt schools.
RPSTA state president Vipin Prakash Sharma said in the letter that Rajasthan govt should review the gazette and rules issued by the Madhya Pradesh govt and must facilitate similar reservation for govt-school students in Rajasthan. This initiative, Sharma noted, will also support Rajasthan govt’s objective to set up senior secondary schools at all gram panchayats.
