The reports quoted Reeves confirming that the budget does not include any further tax hikes. She, in her Spring Statement 2025 speech, said that the government is planning to tackle tax evasion instead. She added that they will be deploying advanced technology, invest in HMRC’s capabilities and increase prosecutions for tax fraud by 20 per cent. These measures are aimed to generate an additional £1 billion in revenue, thereby contributing to a total of £7.5 billion raised under the Labour government.

According to the reports, the budget prioritises capital investment with an additional £2 billion annually to boost economic growth. Defence spending will rise to 2.5 per cent of GDP, Reeves said. The focus will be on novel technologies like AI and drones. Reeves further announced a new Defence Growth Board to maximise economic benefits from military investment.
Meanwhile, welfare reforms will save £4.8 billion with Reeves announcing cuts to universal credit and personal independence payments. The government, reportedly, will be allocating £1 billion for employment support and £400 million for job centres to help people return to work.
Additionally, public sector reforms include a £3.25 billion Transformation Fund, which will be utilised for modernising services, reducing government costs, and enhancing efficiency through AI tools. The civil services will see a 15 per cent reduction in costs. This will save £2 billion by 2030, the reports added.

Planning reforms announced by Reeves are projected to boost housebuilding to a 40-year high of 305,000 homes annually by end of forecast period, the reports stated.
