Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday stated his division has fastened minimal and maximum rates of beer to maintain its costs inside cheap limits.
Cheema additional stated this step has been taken to examine the exorbitant costs of beer, apart from discouraging its smuggling from the neighbouring states.
Such steps may even discourage the manufacturing and consumption of illicit liquor, he stated in an official assertion right here.
Chairing a month-to-month evaluation assembly of the excise division right here, Cheema stated, “In the excise coverage for 2023-24, a clause 28 has been inserted, whereby, to be able to maintain rates of beer inside cheap limits, the ability to resolve the minimal and maximum retail worth of beer to be offered at retail vends and standalone vends, has been given to the federal government”.
