Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday ordered ground-level assessment to determine the injury to wheat crop following incessant rainfall within the state.
A Chief Minister’s Office spokesperson mentioned Mann directed the finance commissioner (income) to situation detailed directions to the deputy commissioners involved for rapid ‘girdawari (ground-level assessment)’ within the areas lashed by rain to determine the extent of the injury.
Adequate compensation, based on authorities norms, shall be given to the affected farmers, Mann mentioned.
Every effort shall be made to compensate the farmers for the losses brought about by the latest spell of rainfall, he added.
Heavy rain lashed a number of components of the state through the previous few days. Many areas witnessed rainfall accompanied by hailstorms.
Partap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of Opposition within the meeting, sought compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre for farmers whose wheat crops have been damaged by the untimely rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms.
