Wrestlers protest: Ruckus broke out at the wrestlers protest web site at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar late on Wednesday with the wrestlers alleging that they had been manhandled by cops. The protesting wrestlers stated they had been crushed up by Delhi Police personnel and even alleged that ladies wrestlers had been abused.
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat broke into tears whereas addressing a midnight press convention at Jantar Mantar. “We usually are not criminals that they’re behaving like this with us,” Phogat stated, including,” I used to be abused and pushed round by policemen.” She questioned why there have been no feminine cops at the location.
Visuals from the location confirmed a scuffle between the wrestlers and cops and heated alternate of phrases between them.
According to reviews, Aam Aadmi Party chief Somnath Bharti had introduced folding cots for the wrestlers are Jantar Mantar and the police tried to cease him, it was at this second that an argument broke out and a scuffle adopted. Bharti was later detained.
“During the protest at Jantar Mantar, Somnath Bharti got here at the protest web site together with folding beds with out permission. On intervention, the supporters turned aggressive in attempting to get the beds out of the truck. Subsequently, a minor altercation occurred wherein Somnath Bharti together with two others was detained,” an announcement issued by DCP, New Delhi, said.
Top wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Mallik, Bajrang Punua and others have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since final practically two weeks demanding elimination of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh alleging sexual harassment, a cost that he has vehemently rejected.
Prominent wrestlers had come ahead three months in the past in opposition to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh following which the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry had fashioned a committee to probe allegations in opposition to him. The Delhi Police had registered two FIRs in opposition to Singh on April 30 over allegations of sexual harassment.
