He said no issue can be resolved through “muscular policy” and that the Hurriyat is ready for a “meaningful and transparent engagement”, which is the only way forward. He said the Hurriyat’s engagement with the Centre during the tenures of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh laid the foundation for a broader engagement which should be taken forward.
Mirwaiz is currently in Delhi, triggering speculation about engagement with the Centre.
Last week he, along with a few other religious preachers of MMU met the JPC on Waqf Amendment Bill and put forth “concerns and reservations” regarding the proposed legislation.
“There is a willingness on our part to come and engage. We chose to come here and meet (the JPC). We did not choose to go to the street or create any sort of chaos… Our willingness to come here and talk to MPs make it clear that we are ready to engage as far as the larger issue is concerned,” Mirwaiz told ET. He said he was hopeful of engagement with the Centre.
