What is PM E-DRIVE?
PM E-DRIVE is India’s EV support program that replaced FAME II and absorbed EMPS-2024. It began on October 1, 2024 to accelerate electric vehicle adoption and build charging infrastructure.
The scheme funds incentives for electric two-wheelers (e-2W), electric three-wheelers (e-3W), e-buses, e-trucks, e-ambulances, plus public charging stations and testing agencies. The current outlay is ₹10,900 crore. Heavy vehicle segments are scheduled through March 31, 2028, subject to budget availability.

Charging infrastructure
Quick check: your real benefit depends on battery capacity, the per-vehicle cap, and the 15% price ceiling. Always compare the dealer’s quote with the latest rate on the official PM E-DRIVE portal.
What changed recently?
Heavy segments like e-buses, e-trucks, and e-ambulances have an operational runway to March 31, 2028. The lighter segments, e-2W and e-3W, follow their original end dates. If you are buying a scooter or three-wheeler, focus on your registration date to lock in the applicable rate.
How to claim the EV incentive (buyer’s steps)
-
Choose an eligible model and OEM listed on the PM E-DRIVE portal.
-
At the dealership, your case is created on the portal.
-
Complete Aadhaar e-KYC with face authentication on the spot.
-
You receive an e-voucher on your registered mobile number.
-
At delivery, the dealer captures a quick selfie for authentication.
-
The incentive is reflected as a price reduction or passed on as per the OEM’s claim process.
What to carry
Good to know
What dealers and OEMs handle behind the scenes
-
Submitting monthly claims on time, usually within 120 days of sale
-
Ensuring the vehicle meets advanced battery and localization norms
-
Keeping records for audits and following the voucher + selfie flow
This is why choosing an authorized dealer for an eligible model matters. It prevents claim rejections and avoids pricing confusion at the last mile.
Dates and deadlines at a glance
-
Scheme start: Oct 1, 2024
-
e-2W and e-3W rates:
-
FY25 window: up to ₹5,000/kWh
-
FY26 window: ₹2,500/kWh
-
-
Heavy segments: planning window through Mar 31, 2028, budget permitting
If your purchase timing straddles financial years, the registration date decides your rate.
PM E-DRIVE vs FAME II and EMPS-2024
-
FAME II ended in March 2024.
-
EMPS-2024 ran April to September 2024 for 2W/3W and then merged into PM E-DRIVE.
-
PM E-DRIVE introduced Aadhaar face-auth e-KYC, voucher issuance, and selfie checks, which were not used in FAME II.
Practical tips before you buy
-
Confirm eligibility: Check if the exact variant you want is listed on the portal.
-
Know your battery size: Subsidy scales with kWh, subject to caps.
-
Compare the on-road price: Ask the dealer to show the ex-factory price, the subsidy calculation, and the final invoice.
-
Lock your timing: If you are close to a rate change, confirm when your RTO registration will happen.
-
Plan charging: Look at public charging near home and work. If you live in an apartment, talk to the association early about a dedicated socket or shared chargers.
-
Warranty and service: Prioritize EVs with battery warranty transparency and accessible service centers.
-
Insurance: Ask for battery and electrical component coverage details, not just third-party and own-damage.
Where to verify details
-
Official PM E-DRIVE portal: live rates, eligible models, and process updates
-
Dealer and OEM notices: variant-level eligibility, price changes, and delivery timelines
-
State transport websites: for e-bus procurement and local tender calendars
Search terms that help: PM E-DRIVE portal, PM E-DRIVE eligible models, EV subsidy India, electric scooter subsidy, e-rickshaw incentive, EV charging stations near me.
Organisation: Ministry of Heavy Industry
Facility Name : PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme
Country : India
Website : https://pmedrive.heavyindustries.gov.in/
Bottom line
If you are buying an electric two-wheeler or three-wheeler, your registration date and battery capacity decide the incentive under PM E-DRIVE. For buses, trucks, and ambulances, planning windows run longer, but budgets are finite, so readiness matters.
Next steps:
-
Shortlist two or three eligible EV models.
-
Check the live rate on the official portal.
-
Ask your dealer to show the subsidy math on the invoice before you pay.
If you want, tell me your shortlists and battery sizes. I can estimate the likely ₹/kWh benefit and the effective on-road price so you walk into the dealership fully prepared.
