Advanced photonics and defense technology Olee.space has been nominated as the Development-cum-Production Partner (DCPP) for a ₹70 crore (~US$7.4 million) Advanced Photonics Development Programme of the Government of India.
The programme is significant because it could allow Olee.space to move beyond developing individual photonics applications and build a common photonics architecture that can be deployed across multiple use cases. The company has already identified 15 applications and plans to develop further applications on this shared architecture, while the government-backed programme is expected to strengthen the engineering, manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities needed to scale these technologies from development to production.
“We believe the core photonics is far more exciting and to be discovered. We have struck the first rock, we would be the one mining it economically. The applications are endless, we have presented 15 already and we would build further in shared photonics architecture,” said James Solomon, CEO, Olee.space.
