Biometric attendance for medical faculty
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has mandated that medical college faculty members personally record attendance using the Aadhaar-enabled biometric system. The NMC warned of action against impersonation, citing concerns about fake fingerprints being used. Additionally, medical institutions must update their websites with detailed faculty lists for each department, including names, photos, qualifications, designations, and registration numbers by July 31. Incomplete or incorrect submissions will face repercussions. These lists must also be linked to the biometric system and updated monthly. The NMC emphasises the seriousness of these requirements to ensure accurate attendance and transparency.
Counselling for NEET-UG to start from August 14
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced that the counselling process for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 will commence on August 14. The registration for the counselling process is expected to begin in the first week of August, as stated by Dr B Srinivas, Secretary of the National Medical Commission (NMC). Candidates are encouraged to regularly check the MCC website for the most recent updates and notifications regarding the counselling process. According to Srinivas, “The counselling will take place for the allotment of approximately 1.10 lakh MBBS seats in around 710 medical colleges across the country. Also, the counselling will be held for 21,000 BDS seats besides Ayush and nursing seats.”
The MCC will be responsible for conducting the counselling for the 15 per cent all-India Quota seats, as well as 100 percent seats of all AIIMS, JIPMER Pondicherry, all central university seats, and 100 percent deemed university seats. Platinum year

Human trafficking is a serious Issue
On July 30, 2024, the Legal Aid Clinic at Dayananda Sagar University hosted a legal literacy program for ‘World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.’ Held in collaboration with the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and Bangalore Urban District Legal Services Authority, the event featured Varadaraj B, who emphasised the severity of human trafficking. Brinda Adige of Global Concerns India highlighted the exploitation of women and children, urging vigilance with personal information on social media. Dr Amit Bhatt, vice-chancellor of Dayananda Sagar University, noted that human trafficking and bonded labor constitute a billion-dollar global industry.
