James Anderson Set For His Final Appearance In Test Cricket

England’s James Anderson, renowned as the most prolific in Test cricket history, will bid farewell to his illustrious career at the close of England’s summer later this year, a report in UK media said.

According to reports, James Anderson plans to bring the curtains down on his inspiring cricketing career after playing for his national team in six Tests against West Indies and Sri Lanka, with his final appearance taking place at his hometown ground, Old Trafford.

Reports indicate that England cricket team head coach Brendon McCullum engaged in a face-to-face discussion with Anderson, culminating in the decision regarding his retirement.

According to The Guardian, during a five-day visit to the UK, Brendon McCullum engaged in a candid conversation with James Anderson, encouraging the legendary pacer to reflect on the future of England’s Test team and to contemplate retirement.

At the age of 41, James Anderson solidified his status as the most experienced England Test player, marking his 187th appearance, a record surpassed only by Sachin Tendulkar.

During the India tour, Anderson achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first pace bowler and the third overall to reach 700 Test wickets. The veteran pacer’s remarkable career boasts 32 four-wicket hauls, 32 five-wicket hauls, and 3 ten-wicket hauls, securing his place as the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket. He follows behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800 Test wickets), and Australia’s Shane Warne, with 708 wickets to his name.
