Chennai: The rank lists for admission to undergraduate courses in Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy and Ayurveda courses were released by health minister Ma Subramanian on Tuesday.
There are 4,411 eligible applications for 2,063 seats in undergraduate Indian medicine and homeopathy courses in 33 colleges – including five government colleges, he said. The selection committee has received 2,530 applications for government and government quota seats. Out of these, 556 candidates are eligible to apply under the 7.5 per cent government school student quota. The state has received 968 applications under the management quota and 913 applications under all-India quota.
There are 1,210 government and government seats on the seat matrix this year. In addition, 91 seats will be reserved for students under the 7.5 per cent category, 545 seats for management quota and 308 seats for all India quota, the minister said.
Under the government quota, the student who secured the first rank scored 602 marks in NEET-2023 compared to 580 marks in 2022. Under the 7.5 per cent quota, the highest score was 363 marks. Scores of toppers in management quota and All India quota were 506. Last year the cut off for OC category in Ayurveda was 416, followed by 410 in Siddha, 406 in Homeopathy and 130 in Unani. In the BC category, the cut-off for homeopathy was 249 followed by 230 in Siddha and 213 in Ayurveda. The lowest cut was 98 for Unani.
Every year, the state is aiming at adding infrastructure and resources. Land has been identified to start a new homeopathy College and Hospital in Madurai. In addition, we have sought permission from the centre to start AIIMS-like institutions for Siddha in Trichy, he said.
An exclusive Siddha University proposed by the state government is awaiting approval from the state governor R N Ravi. “We proposed a new university for Siddha, passed bills in the assembly and sent them to the Raj Bhavan for nod. It is still awaited,” he said. “The proposed university will have CM as the chancellor. A candidate of his choice will be the vice-chancellor,” he said. The administrative building for the university will be at Aynavaram and the state has identified land in Madhavaram for the university, he said.
