Holi was celebrated in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with conventional fervour and gaiety on Wednesday as folks smeared ‘gulal’, threw balloons stuffed with color on one another and exchanged sweets.
People visited mates and relations, and gifted ‘gujia’ (a standard candy) moreover smearing ‘gulal’ (color powder) on one another’s faces.
Colours of all hues and the scent of gulal pervaded streets as folks of all ages celebrated the competition.
‘Holi hai’ lease the air as teams of revellers zoomed the streets on motorbikes whereas children danced to standard numbers and kids armed with ‘pichkaris’ chased one another and hurled water-filled balloons on folks from rooftops.
Some inns and resorts had organised rain dance events with snacks and buffets.
Police in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh had made elaborate preparations to make sure a secure and joyous Holi.
A warning was issued towards hooliganism, whereas particular groups of site visitors police together with police management room vans and native police have been deployed at many locations to verify incidents of drunken driving, rushing and reckless driving.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar prolonged greetings to the folks on the competition of colors.
