The number of victims of vehicular trauma caused by road traffic accidents doubled from an average of 481 on regular days to 921 on Diwali day in Gujarat, a rise of 91.48%, showed data from the GVK-EMRI control room. The state also reported a 124.31% rise in the number of victims of physical assault on Diwali, with the number of cases going up from an average of 144 in the state to 323 on October 31.
Besides, a total of 4,889 medical emergencies, where patients had to be transported to hospitals for treatment, were reported in Gujarat – marking an 8.55% increase in cases from an average day.
As for accident cases, the highest number was reported in Ahmedabad, where the cases rose from an average of 90 to 131 on October 31. Cases nearly doubled from 25 to 48 in Rajkot, 34 to 59 in Vadodara, and 54 to 92 cases on Diwali in Surat.
The highest number of such cases of physical assault were registered in Ahmedabad where the number doubled from an average of 35 to 77 on Diwali. Cases rose from seven to 18 in Rajkot, seven to 15 in Vadodara, and 15 to 33 in Surat. The districts with the highest overall percentage increase in emergencies included Anand, Aravalli, Bharuch, Botad, Dahod, Mahisagar, Morbi, Panchmahal, Porbandar, Dang, and Valsad.
There were a total of 38 burns cases including eight in Ahmedabad, six in Surat and five in Bharuch.

Notably, Ahmedabad reported a decrease in overall emergencies, with 889 cases on Diwali compared to the usual 940, reflecting a decrease of 5.43%.
49 emergency cases at Vadodara hospital
Meanwhile, Vadodara’s SSG Hospital recorded a total of 49 emergency cases of accidents, physical brawls and burns during 24 hours on the occasion of Diwali on Thursday.
Officials of SSG Hospital on Friday said that the hospital had received three cases of burns due to fire-crackers, of which, one patient had been admitted to the burns wing for treatment.
The hospital also received 24 cases of road accidents, including one fatality. Officials of SSG Hospital also said that a total of 22 cases of injuries due to physical brawls had been reported in the last 24 hours. The hospital said that the OPD was operational on all days and the emergency department had been fully equipped to deal with the emergencies.
