Lucknow: Need to focus on local research was highlighted by experts at the 5th Young Haematologist Orientation Program (YHOP) at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Sunday.
Around 60 students from various institutions attended the two-day programme, which helps final-year DM, DNB, PDCC and fellowship students prepare for careers as haematology consultants.
Former director of Tata Medical Centre, Prof Mammen Chandy, emphasised need for India to rely on its own research. Dr Prantar Chakraborty highlighted how AI can help diagnose diseases quickly, even in remote areas.
The programme featured a quiz organised by Dr Mukul Agarwal from AIIMS, New Delhi, with prizes for winners. It also included sessions by 16 expert faculty members, such as Dr Anshul Gupta from Medanta and Dr Sanjeev from SGPGI. Topics covered included haematology, bone marrow transplantation, writing research papers, and medico-legal issues. The Haematology Foundation, led by Prof. Soniya Nityanand, supported the participants’ travel and stay.
