He took over his new role on Monday. He will be reporting to Ajit Varghese, Disney Star’s Head of Network Advertising Sales.
He replaces Ambarish Bandyopadhyay, who quit the company in March, in the midst of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bandyopadhyay has since joined ESME Consumer as Head of Sales and Distribution.
In 2018, Essence, which is now known as EssenceMedia following its merger with Mediacom, appointed Mitra as COO-APAC.
Prior to Essence, Mitra was the former Managing Director of Maxus Philippines.
Mitra has more than 20 years of experience leading large-scale digital company transformations in markets including India, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, and Indonesia. He also had stints at Madison, Emami, and Mindshare.Comprising 17 SD and HD channels, the Star Sports network is home to a number of leading domestic and International sports, including the International Cricket Council (ICC), Indian Premier League (IPL), Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Pro Kabaddi, and Indian Super League (ISL), among others.
