The Delhi Police has shared a video of a police officer informing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke about the death of his grandmother while they were in custody over an alleged planned protest at Jantar Mantar.
The video starts with a female police officer approaching Dipke and saying that she has some sad news to deliver. “Your grandmother has passed away,” she informs him with a sense of regret on her face.
Delhi Police shared a video showing CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was informed of his grandmother’s death while in custody for an alleged protest at Jantar Mantar, claiming he refused funeral travel assistance, though Dipke alleges he was denied contact.
Dipke is quiet for a moment and lowers his head and covers his head with his hands. He then looks up and says, “I see.”

The video proceeds to show a male police officer asking Dipke if he wanted to travel to Maharashtra to attend his grandmother’s funeral. “The police will take you all the way if you want to go,” the officer said. Dipke replied stating he would stay back.
When the officer asked him once more if he wanted to go, he once again refused to leave. He is also asked whether he wants to contact any of his family members, but he says that he does not remember the numbers. After being told that the funeral will happen the next day, Dipke says that he will not be able to attend.
The Delhi Police shared the footage on social media to refute claims that Dipke had not been informed about the death of his grandmother. Police said that they informed him in a sensitive manner and even offered assistance to help him go back home, but he refused.

Dipke has challenged police claims, posting on X that he had asked to speak to his cousin who lives with his grandmother. He said that he once asked them for his phone for a couple of minutes so he could find out the contact number but was refused. He also alleged that his request to speak to a lawyer was denied.
In the same post, Dipke stated that the police officers had asked him at around 3:30 am to call his father and tell him that he could be sent to jail for a long time. He asked what more his family had to go through after the death of his grandmother.
Dipke was arrested along with CJP co-convenors Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das after they arrived in Delhi on Saturday for an alleged planned protest at Jantar Mantar. The protest was to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The leaders were among thousands of CJP supporters and opposition figures arrested during the police action. They were later released.
After Dipke was released, he went to his hometown in Maharashtra for the last rites of his grandmother. CJP has said that the protest campaign will continue.
