Chittaranjan Park (CR Park), often referred to as the ‘Mini Kolkata’ of the national capital, is being decked up for Durga Puja, one of the biggest festivals celebrated by Bengalis. With artists giving a final touch to idols and pandals, India TV brings you the insights of various pandal themes to give an idea before you plan to visit South Delhi’s ‘Bengali hamlet’ this year.
If you are planning to visit CR Park by Metro, the first pandal to explore is GK 2 Durgotsab, just a kilometre away from the Greater Kailash Metro Station. Visitors will experience a sense of patriotism, as this year’s pandal theme is ‘150 Years of Vande Mataram’.
‘150 years of Vande Mataram’ at GK 2 Durgotsab
Samrat Banerjee, Vice President of the Durgotsab GK2 committee, said, “We are trying to vivify the true meaning of ‘Vande Mataram’ in today’s life. The pandal will have various art forms of Abanindranath Tagore’s ‘Banga Mata’, and daily there will be cultural performances through songs, music, and play on Vande Mataram.” “We are also planning to promote the rich essence of ‘Vande Mataram’ through our social media channels throughout the year,” he added.

Bengal’s rich ‘Jute heritage’ at Co-operative Ground Durga Puja
A kilometre away from Durgotsab GK2, the next pandals to visit are – Co-operative Ground Durga Puja and CR Park Kali Mandir. In the 51st year, the Co-operative Ground Durga Puja Samity is bringing Bengal’s ‘rich jute heritage’ through their pandal. Kallol Acharyya, Cultural Secretary, Co-operative Ground Durga Puja Samity, said, “The entire pandal and various art forms are being made using jute and bamboo. The pandal will be opened for people on Durga Panchami – Thursday, October 15.”

The other must-visit pandals in CR Park are –
- B-Block Durga Puja
- Navapalli/Pocket 40 Durga Puja
- D-Block Durga Puja
- Purbachal Durga Puja
- Milan Samity Durga Puja.
Rabindra Nath Tagore’s Sahaj Path at Katyayani Trust, Alaknanda
For the pandal hoppers who wish to explore beyond CR Park, they can visit the adjacent Alaknanda and Govind Puri. This year, Katyayani Trust, Alaknanda’s pandal, will portray the well-known Bengali primer, Sahaj Path. According to Arnab Bhattacharya, Secretary of Katyayani Trust, “Our rich Bengali language and culture are slowly fading away, and for ‘Probashi Bengali children’, it’s quite tough to know our vernacular in its true sense. The pandal with the theme ‘Sahaj Path’ is a humble attempt to revisit the Bengal that time may be slowly obscuring, to rediscover its timeless beauty, and to carry its spirit forward to the generations yet to come.
For some traditions are not meant merely to be remembered—they are meant to be lived, to be cherished, and to be passed on, lovingly, from one generation to the next.”
Nearest Metro to CR Park Durga Puja
The nearest metro station to CR Park is Nehru Enclave (Magenta Line). Visitors can also reach CR Park conveniently from Greater Kailash Metro Station (Magenta Line), depending on their entry point. Both stations are within 5-10 minutes of the puja pandals, making travel easy during the festive rush.
