Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Thursday alleged there was a conspiracy to merge her party with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and that the controversy began while she was in jail.
The party MLC also alleged that attempts were being made to distance her from her father and party president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).
Without naming names, she appeared to take aim at her brother and BRS Working President KT Rama Rao, questioning the leadership’s intentions and alleging an orchestrated campaign to isolate her.
“There is a conspiracy to merge the BRS with the BJP. When I was in jail, there was a discussion in the party to the parties, to which I objected and offered to stay in jail if required,” Kavitha said while speaking to reporters.
Speaking further, Kavitha also alleged that some people in the party conspired against her while she was in jail.
“No one else in the BRS accepts leadership, except for KCR. I belong to the BRS party, and there was a conspiracy against me when I was in jail. While going to the jail, I said I would resign from the MLC post. I was targeted on the party’s social media handle,” she said.
Also dismissing speculation about backdoor talks with the Congress or plans to launch a new political outfit, Kavitha said, “Those claims are completely false. Congress is shrinking ship. I am not starting a new party. I have always worked under KCR’s leadership, and I will continue to do so.”
She reaffirmed her loyalty to her father and rejected suggestions that she was working against him or the party.
“I don’t stab anyone in the back. I fight my battles head-on,” she said.
Reflecting emotionally on her role in the Telangana agitation, Kavitha said, “I fought for statehood even while pregnant. I never sought posts or power—I fought for the people.”
Kavitha also called for accountability following BRS’s poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
“Just posting on social media platforms isn’t enough. Those responsible for the defeat must be held accountable,” she said.
This is not the first time Kavitha has made such claims.
Last week, too, she alleged internal differences within the BRS and took an exception to the letter she wrote to her KCR getting leaked.
She also said some conspiracies are taking place in the party. KCR is like God, who is surrounded by some devils, she had said.
Reiterating her claims, Kavitha, on Thursday, said, “Some people are saying that we are leading KCR, are you big enough to lead KCR? They should answer who leaked my letter. Why doesn’t the party deny the false news about me?”
“I don’t do petty politics like them, I stay calm. KCR is the only leader in BRS, I won’t accept anyone else’s leadership in the party,” she said.
A handwritten “feedback” letter written by Kavitha to her father, KCR, highlighting both the negative and positive aspects of the party’s recent public meeting at Warangal, earlier sparked discussions in Telangana’s political circles.
“As you (KCR) spoke for just two minutes, some people began speculating that there will be a tie-up with the BJP in future. I even felt that you should have spoken strongly (against the BJP). It might be because I suffered (because of the BJP). But you should have targeted the BJP some more, Daddy,” Kavitha mentioned in the letter written in Telugu and English.
CONGRESS REACTS
Reacting to Kavitha’s remarks, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy called it a “clear indication of a political understanding between the BJP and the BRS.”
Reddy also alleged that in exchange for support in the Lok Sabha elections, the BRS was seeking relief for Kavitha in the Delhi liquor scam case.
Reddy stated that the Congress does not need Kavitha’s support and challenged her to clarify her remarks about “demons” within the party.
He further demanded that Kavitha call for a CBI inquiry into the alleged corruption and “loot” by KCR’s family during their time in power.
