New Delhi: A recent survey by Medvarsity, an EdTech platform reveals that a majority of diabetologists and endocrinologists across India are eager for continuous skill development, particularly in emerging AI-driven tools for diabetes management.
Conducted in recognition of World Diabetes Day, the survey involved over 3,000 healthcare providers specializing in diabetes care.
According to the survey, 90 per cent of respondents emphasized the urgent need for ongoing training to improve diabetes management skills. The survey also highlights a preference for collaborative learning methods, with 75 per cent of participants favoring clinical case discussions and peer reviews to enhance their professional growth.
The study found that 82 per cent of doctors prioritize learning about the prevention and management of diabetes complications, such as neuropathy and nephropathy. Advanced insulin management is also a key area of interest, with 78% of respondents keen on improving their expertise in this field.
There is also a high demand for learning to use AI-driven tools in diabetes care. Seventy-eight percent of healthcare professionals expressed interest in automated insulin dose calculators, 75 per cent in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) analysis systems, and 70 per cent in diabetic retinopathy screening tools.
Despite this strong interest, healthcare professionals face several barriers to skill development. Time constraints (65 per cent ), program costs (60 per cent), and balancing personal and professional lives (58 per cent) were identified as the top challenges.
Survey findings also indicate a growing interest in AI’s role in diabetes care. Eighty-eight percent of doctors see early detection of complications as a primary application of AI, and 85 per cent anticipate benefits in personalized treatment planning. Additionally, 80 per cent of respondents recognized the importance of automated blood sugar monitoring, supported by AI, in improving continuous tracking and diabetes management.
