Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur on Saturday and it has triggered fresh efforts from the party to form a government in the trouble-torn state. Manipur has been under President’s rule since February with the assembly under suspended animation. The term of the assembly is till 2027.
With BJP failing to find a consensus candidate for the chief ministership, President’s rule was imposed in Manipur four days after N Biren Singh resigned as the chief minister of the state on February 9, following ethnic violence.
A senior BJP leader said: “With about two years remaining, there is a renewed urgency to form a government. The leaders are softening stands.”
