Nearly 5,000 members, including former ward members and councillors, had either quit or been ousted before the polls that were held in May this year, according to party sources. While those who had been ousted were ousted for six years, sources said the state leadership has decided to have the members back.
A start was made in this direction on Monday with a clutch of former councillors, mayor and mayoral candidates from Lucknow rejoining the BJP as part of the first phase of such joinings. Further, many new members, including members from the minority community, also joined the party.
“All those who have joined the party today, I would urge them to first work towards winning their booth, and then wherever they have influence in the state,” deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said addressing the joinees.
