The initiative seeks to remove traditional barriers such as geography, industry access and connections by enabling aspiring actors to audition directly through their smartphones. Positioned as a nationwide digital-first platform, it aims to build a diverse and authentic talent pipeline by tapping into users across urban and rural India.
With participation hosted via app and web interfaces, the platform allows users to upload auditions without requiring referrals or physical presence. The programme will go live on the Vi app in the coming months, with early registrations currently open on both companies’ websites.
Birla Studios founder and chairperson Ananya Birla said the platform is designed to address long-standing access gaps in the industry. “Talent does not always get the opportunity it deserves and that gap has kept far too many aspirants out of the spotlight. With the reach of digital infrastructure today, Birla Studios’ creative vision, and Vodafone Idea’s strong national footprint expanding this platform beyond conventional access points, we have the ability to create access at scale,” she said.
She added that the initiative aims to rethink how the industry opens its doors. “‘Reel Se Real Star’ is our attempt to do that by building a platform where anyone, from anywhere, can be discovered, and opportunity isn’t limited by circumstance. Because ultimately, everyone’s talent deserves a real shot at being seen.”
The platform combines mass participation with professional evaluation, with shortlisted participants receiving mentorship and guidance from established directors and creative professionals. Winners will be offered roles in feature films, providing a direct entry point into mainstream cinema.
Vodafone Idea CEO Abhijit Kishore said the partnership leverages connectivity to create opportunity at scale. “Connectivity is most meaningful when it creates opportunity. ‘Reel Se Real Star’ breaks traditional industry barriers by bringing the audition room straight into the hands of aspiring actors nationwide,” he said.“Leveraging our robust network and expansive digital reach of over 200 million users along with Birla Studios’ creative vision, we are democratising talent discovery across India. Our goal is simple: to ensure potential isn’t limited by geography and can be discovered from anywhere — be it metro cities or the remotest villages.”
The collaboration comes as media and entertainment companies increasingly look to digital platforms to identify new talent and expand content pipelines. By integrating telecom reach with studio-led creative development, the initiative signals a shift toward more inclusive and scalable talent discovery models.
Birla Studios, launched in 2026, focuses on high-concept commercial cinema while nurturing emerging voices. Vodafone Idea, a joint venture between the Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group, continues to expand its digital and 5G footprint across India, positioning connectivity as a key enabler of new consumer platforms.
