Belagavi: The Belagavi zilla panchayat has launched a new programme called ‘CET-NEET Saksham’ in the district for the educational upliftment of students from economically weaker sections of in the rural areas, studying in govt PU colleges. This programme is the brainchild of ZP CEO Rahul Shinde. There are 34 govt PU colleges in the district with the science stream where the new programme has been introduced.
There are 34 govt pre-university science colleges functioning in Belagavi district, including 15 in Chikodi zone and 19 in Belagavi zone. There are 1,699 I PUC and 1,561 II PUC students in Chikodi zone, and 1,444 I PUC and 1,359 II PUC students in Belagavi zone. A total of 3,143 I PUC and 2,920 II PUC students, including both zones, are studying science subjects in govt pre-university colleges.
As part of the ‘CET-NEET Saksham’ programme, CET-NEET preparation tests will be conducted on the second Saturday of every month for I PUC students and on the fourth Saturday for II PUC students.
ZP CEO Rahul Shinde, who launched the initiative on Saturday at Sardar High School, said that in collaboration with the department of pre-university education, the programme has been conducted in all govt science colleges of the district. The programme aims to prepare the students for CET-NEET exams by conducting readiness tests for the first and second PUC students of govt science PU colleges every month. The examination will be conducted in the colleges where the students are currently studying. The first examination was conducted for II PUC students on Saturday, he said.
The exam was based on OMR marking. After evaluation, district, taluk, and college-wise rankings will be given. The main objective is to instil a competitive spirit in students and remove the fear of CET-NEET. The results will be published within two days of the examination. After that, the examination will be analysed by conducting doubt-clearing sessions in colleges, he explained.
Four committees have been formed to facilitate the successful implementation of the programme, which will contribute to educational progress. ZP chief planning officer Gangadhar Divatar will be the coordinator of these committees, he said.
Doubt-clearing session classes will be conducted by subject experts. In addition, programmes are being organised to increase the learning ability of students by organising explanatory classes. The readiness tests will not only strengthen the capacity of the students to face the CET-NEET examinations but also increase their expertise and mental resilience to face competitive examinations in the future. Practice tests are also being conducted on the model of Karnataka Examination Authority to enable students.
