Cleric Mufti Asad Kasmi advised Muslim women to refrain from visiting beauty parlours when men are employed
A Muslim cleric in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur triggered controversy on Friday after he said that Muslim women should not go to the beauty parlours that employ men as it is “unlawful” and “forbidden” in the religion.
According to India Today, cleric Mufti Asad Kasmi advised Muslim women to refrain from visiting beauty parlours when men are employed and not get their makeup or grooming done by male workers.
He termed it as ‘forbidden’ and ‘unlawful’ for women to get services at such parlours and said that they must visit parlours with only women workers.
This comes after a Muslim woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur complained that her husband pronounced triple talaq over the phone from Saudi Arabia after he learned that she got her eyebrows shaped without his consent.
While the alleged incident took place in the first week of October, it came to light only recently when the victim Gulsaba, approached the police.
According to her complaint, the man had video-called her on October 4, during which he noticed that she had got her eyebrows shaped.
He questioned her about it and got angry when she told him that she did it since he was not happy with the natural shape of her eyebrows.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the police have registered an FIR (first information report) against her husband, mother-in-law and three others.
