LG TVs have been accused of secretly recording conversations and even processing them. Here’s what the company has said.

Recently there have been reports about LG TVs secretly recording the conversation people have in their living room. Smart TVs are generally known for their internet-linked smartness that allows you to use apps and even browse the web. But having advanced features makes them equally susceptible to privacy concerns and these findings around LG TVs have surely reignited those worries.
But the company has finally come out with the answers around these allegations and somehow tries its best to assure its customers that its TVs are not a privacy risk in their homes.
LG says that its smart televisions are not secretly recording or transmitting private conversations.
These details have been given in a statement earlier this week, which says, some recent media coverage had created misconceptions about how its smart TVs operate and emphasised that speech-to-text processing begins only when a user actively engages a voice feature.
We Don’t Record…
According to the company, the smart feature is only activated when the person uses a wake word or by pressing the voice or AI button on the remote control. This is a lot like Amazon Echo and Google Nest speakers but LG vouches for its better privacy of your conversations.
LG smart TVs do not continuously record or transmit users’ conversations,” the company said. That’s not all, the brand claims the chats are processed locally on the television and, if it does not hear the wake word, those chats are not converted to text, stored or transmitted, LG added.
However, LG did admit that the voice-recognition logs may be generated during an active voice command session. And said these records are tied to specific interactions not linked to possible spying on the consumers. The company also noted that a voice-recognition session typically lasts only a short period after activation.
The company further addressed concerns surrounding its Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) feature, which identifies content being viewed on a television. LG said ACR relies on audio fingerprinting technology and does not collect screenshots, screen recordings, video recordings or voice recordings.
The feature, along with voice recognition and interest-based advertising, is optional and not enabled by default, according to the company
The company said users can manage or withdraw consent for optional features through television settings while continuing to access core functions such as streaming apps, live TV and software updates
