During Skanda Sashti, devotees participate in a six-day fast that begins on the first day, or Pirathamai, of the Karthika lunar month and concludes on the sixth day, known as Soorasamharam day. Chhath Puja, which honours Surya, the Sun God and symbol of energy and life-force, will also take place on this day, promoting well-being, prosperity and progress.
