Two four-year-old school girls were allegedly sexually assaulted by a school janitor in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Actor Riteish Deshmukh, in an X post, condemned the act, and called for the “harshest punishment” for the accused.
“As a parent am absolutely disgusted, pained and raging with anger!! Two 4 year old girls were sexually assaulted by the male cleaning staff member of the school. Schools are supposed to be as safe a place for kids as their own homes. Harshest punishment needs to be given to this demon. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his times gave the guilty what they deserved – Chaurang – we need these laws back in action. #BadlapurCrime,” the Bigg Boss Marathi season 5 host wrote.

On Tuesday, multiple protests broke out at Badlapur over the assault case. According to reports, the “delay” in police intervention triggered the protests. The protests led to Mumbai’s local train services being halted temporarily. Several videos of angry locals obstructing roads and highways took over social media.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said he spoke to Thane police commissioner, and that the accused was already arrested. He also assured a fast-tracked investigation and plans to implement a standard operating procedure to prevent such crimes.
According to reports, two girls were allegedly sexually assaulted by a cleaning staff member in the school’s toilet. The incident happened on August 12 and 13, however, an FIR was not filed until August 16.
“A stringent criminal case has been registered. Within four hours (of the case registration), the accused was arrested. The court granted police custody of the accused. A thorough investigation is being carried out. A senior inspector of the police station concerned himself is investigating the matter and two experienced women police officers have been assisting him. Senior officers are also overseeing the investigation to ensure a watertight case is prepared with maximum pieces of evidence,” a senior police officer said.
