The International Cricket Council (ICC) rated the pitch at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town which produced the shortest-ever Test match as “unsatisfactory” under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process. The rating comes after submission of an official report from the ICC Match Referee. Captains Dean Elgar and Rohit Sharma were also consulted. The verdict means that the venue willl receive one demerit point.
“The pitch in Newlands was very difficult to bat on. The ball bounced quickly and sometimes alarmingly throughout the match, making it difficult to play shots. Several batters were hit on the gloves and many wickets also fell due to the awkward bounce,” Broad said in an official statement.
